Roughly fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations show the fluid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for details.
An important official commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
